Within the swirling galaxy that is love for everything automotive-related, another constellation revolves: the love of watches and other instruments that measure time. When these two collide, few can hope to escape their gravitational pull, and here’s more proof: Seiko has released a limited edition watch based on the classic Nissan Skyline GT-R sports car.

Grand Seiko is currently celebrating the 20th anniversary of its Spring Drive watch technology just as Nissan celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Skyline GT-R, which debuted in 1969. The GT-R name returns on a 2020 model that has been revealed. at the New York auto show in April.

Grand Seiko incorporates design elements from the GT-R into the design of the watch. The Anniversary GT-R is available in three two-tone color combinations, including Bayside Blue (Wangan), a latest shade available on the 1999-2002 R34 generation.

This beautiful shade of blue is used on the ceramic outer case of the watch; the interior case, made of titanium, is waterproof to a depth of 10 bar (approximately 330 feet). The silver dial and white crocodile strap accented with blue contrast stitching pay homage to the Skyline GT-R racing livery with its white stripe on the hood and roof.

While the R34 featured a twin-turbo inline-six under its hood, the watch’s Spring Drive GMT 9R96 automatic chronograph can measure elapsed times up to 12 hours and has a GMT function to track multiple time zones. The movement is visible through a sapphire crystal caseback. The oscillating weight features the GT-R anniversary emblem in 18K yellow gold.

Grand Seiko will produce 200 watches priced at $ 21,000 each, with availability starting this month.
