Swiss luxury watchmaker Hublot announcement on June 21, it would release 200 new limited-edition watches that will also be available for purchase online using chosen cryptocurrencies via BitPay.
The company said:
“Exclusively on our Hublot United States eBoutique, customers will be able to shop using select cryptocurrencies with BitPay.”
Indeed, the new Big Bang Unico Essential Gray will be exclusively available on the Hublot United States Watchmakers eBoutique, with the watch available for around 20,700 Euros ($21,800), or just over a whole Bitcoin at the current market price of the flagship digital asset.
Luxury watchmakers make Web3 projects
Interestingly, the news follows another Swiss luxury watchmaker TAG Heuer announcing in May the rollout of cryptocurrency payments for all online purchases on its website in the United States.
TAG Heuer Noted that their new crypto payment option is a partnership with BitPay and will feature 12 digital currencies, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Dogecoin, and five dollar-pegged stablecoins.
It’s worth mentioning that TAG Heuer has revealed that the company’s first foray into Web3 and wider adoption of blockchain technology and non-fungible tokens (NFTs) will begin with accepting cryptocurrency payments.
Additionally, the watchmaker has jumped on the NFT bandwagon and created a smartwatch feature that allows its users to show off their NFT collections.
The Swiss company pointed out that the move “is part of TAG Heuer’s expanding digital ecosystem of apps and watch faces, created by a team of in-house developers and bearing the brand’s trademark design signatures.”
Users have the ability to choose which NFTs they want to display on their wrist, thanks to a feature that allows the watch to securely connect to a variety of crypto wallets such as Metamask or Ledger Live.
