Luxury wristwatches are generally categorized by their exquisite quality, elegant style, and high prices that come with them.
While there are many iconic watch brands that have spent decades building legacies that allow them to charge a premium, not everyone can afford to spend thousands of dollars on a watch. In many cases, people are reluctantly settling for the boring carbon copy watch designs that can be found at one of the many watch startups that have popped up in recent years.
Fortunately, there is now an option for affordable luxury watches that are undeniably unique and stylish – and it’s called Breda.
Founded in 2009 by brothers Amir and Shabeena Meghani, Breda was created to fill the void in the market for good quality yet affordable fashion watches. The siblings identified the need while working for their family business, Grand Time, a watch company with more than 60 years of experience that spans from making leather straps to selling luxury watches. allowed.
With a clear vision for the industry as a whole, Breda has carved out a path for itself by creating high-end timepieces that combine classic and modern style at accessible prices.
“What separates two companies within the same industry is not just what you sell, but why and to whom,” said Amir Meghani. “On the surface, Breda sells unique and elegant watches. But we see our product as more than that. They are tools for self-expression, a bit of nostalgia, a bit of the future, we sell watches and a brand that encourages people to think about time and take time into their own hands, to connect with themselves and their community.”
To date, Breda’s approach to watchmaking has led to over 250,000 sales – and no signs of slowing down. A group of Insider Reviews reporters and editors tested a variety of Breda watches and shared their thoughts below.
Amir’s opinion on the Breda Play Illuminate
With a semi-translucent recycled plastic construction, simple display and illuminating details, the Breda Play Illuminate reminds me of a watch I would have worn in my teens and that’s why I love it so much. The hour markers and hands of the watch glow a very bright green color in the dark. Even though it’s mostly a novelty, it’s a touch I always appreciate on watches. The Breda Play features a 35mm case, which some people might find too small, but with the playful retro theme, I don’t mind the smaller size. — Amir Ismael, Senior Reporter
Amir’s opinion on the Breda Virgil
After testing the Breda Play and loving it for its nostalgic theme, I really appreciated the brand quality with the Breda Virgil. The watch features a gold plated case, a brushed ivory dial with black markers and a black leather strap. Overall, the design is sleek and luxurious, which led me to think it should cost a lot more than it does.
At 26mm, the Breda Virgil has a delicate, minimalist look. Personally, I don’t like large oversized watch faces, but it turned out that it was still a bit too small for my taste. Compared to my 40mm Apple Watch, which also has a square shape, the Virgil is tiny. — Amir Ismael, Senior Reporter
Ashley’s take on the Breda Jane
With so many new watch startups at the same price point, I expected Breda to be similar to other brands I’ve tried. But as soon as I opened the box of the Jane style, I was surprised by its quality and design. It felt like a much more expensive watch, and I like the brushed gold metal paired with a black mother-of-pearl dial.
I have a small wrist so the bracelet is too big (as I expected) but this will be easily resolved with a trip to a jewelry store. I’m very excited to wear this watch with dressy clothes, but it could just as easily be worn every day – Emily Ratajkowski was spotted wearing the same style with a denim jacket and trainers. — Ashley Phillips, Style & Beauty Editor
Sally’s opinion on the Breda Revel
Breda watches are worn as a sophisticated bracelet, easily layered with other jewelry or left alone to shine. I’m honestly surprised they don’t cost more! The designs are sleek and the styles range from casual to luxury, with the gold plated watches looking and feeling more like the real thing than I’ve ever seen before.
I wish they had come with a kit to remove the links, or a clever locking system that let you remove them yourself, but it’s not uncommon for nice watches to require a trip anyway to the jewelry store for a fitting. — Sally Kaplan, Editor-in-Chief
The bottom line
Whether you can’t afford a luxury watch from a traditional brand or just don’t want to spend that much, you’ll find incredible value in Breda watches. There’s a style for everyone and they’re built to last, both in style and quality.
